Course specification

Each track in the Doctor of Ministry Program consists of three primary course types: core, customized, and research. 

  • Core Courses form the foundation of the track, consisting of six courses that make up 15-credit hours of the program. Each of the three primary professors will facilitate two of these courses. 
  • Customized Courses create space for specialization within the track. The program contains four customized course that make up 12-credit hours of the program. Each course contains: 
    • Course Learning Plan - Approved by the Faculty Advisor in the first weeks of semester
    • Minimum 2000 pages of reading pertinent to student research topic (bibliography included in Course Learning Plan)
    • 4 synchronous video meetings with faculty advisor (reading/research discussions)
    • 25 hours of Contextual Research - Experiential learning experience (e.g. conference, ministerial site visit, etc.) commensurate with learning goals
    • 4,000-5,000-word essay due at end of semester - Evaluated by Faculty Advisor 
    • 500-word ministry application report - Evaluated by Faculty Advisor 
  • Research Courses prepare the student for successful completion of the final research project. There are four research courses comprising 5-credit hours of the program: 
    • Research Course 1: Orientation to Professional Research (1 Credit Hour)
    • Research Course 2: Contextual Research Approaches (1 Credit Hour)
    • Research Course 3: Topic Design Development and Design (1 Credit Hour)
    • Research Course 4: Design Form and Writing Plan (2 Credit Hours)
